UČEBNICE BEZHRANICE

Czech School without Borders London in cooperation with Fraus Publishing are preparing a textbook, accompanied by an e-book and worksheets, specifically focused on education of Czech-English bilingual children.

The planned e-book will have two main functions; it can be used at Czech Schools based in English speaking countries, but it could be also used by parents of children who cannot attend any such school.

At the moment the worksheets are being tested by teachers of reception class and Year 1 at the Czech School without Borders, as well as at other Czech Schools in England.

This textbook not only reflects specific language needs of bilingual children who grow up in a different cultural context, but at the same time it would like to be fun and offer plenty of interesting topic and activities.

LILACS OF PEACE

Prague was the last European capital to be liberated on May 9, 1945, marking the end of the Second World War in Europe. As if Mother Nature had anticipated this long-desired peace, the spring that year came unusually early and, almost overnight, thousands of lilac bushes blossomed in Prague gardens and parks. As the forces of liberation drove through the city, its welcoming citizens gave bundles of the scented purple and white flowers to their liberators and adorned their tanks in grateful appreciation.  Ever since then, the first appearance of lilacs each spring reminds us of the end of the war as a cherished symbol of peace.

In May 2015, it will have been seventy years since the end of WW2. We want to commemorate this anniversary by bringing this piece of history to children living in London today and inviting them to join us in the activities designed to mark this historical event.

For details about this project please see a separate webpage >>

In order to be able to read and work with the e-book, it’s important that you download it first on your computer.
(When you click on the words in red, you’ll be directed to the glossary with definitions of what those words mean.)

THEATRE WORKSHOPS FOR CHILDREN - DRÁCZECH

The Czech School without Borders presents a series of theatre workshops entitled DráCzech, which will run for five Sundays in the premises of the Czech Centre London. We hope that further language training in the form of drama, language games and performances will entertain the children and inspire them to learn Czech and find out more about Czech culture. Theatre workshops will be led by Adam Hrabal and Eliška Šustová and documented by Zuzka Jungmanová.

Price: £13 for one child / one workshop (no discount for siblings).
You can pay by cash or cheque to Zuzana Jungmanová on the date.

Term: 6 July 2014 - Czech Centre (116 Long Acre, WC2E 9PA, London): 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Capacity: maximum 15 children 5.5 years and older

Children will learn important terms and techniques from the area of acting, both theoretically and practically. They will learn to work with a voice and move in a space. Children will find out something about the types of puppets and they will produce the puppets themselves too.

Parents will receive information email before each workshop. Children will need only comfortable clothes, slippers and something to eat and drink.
All material will be supplied by the Czech School Without Borders.

Eliška, Adam and Zuzka look forward to all enthusiasts!

LIVING MUSEUMS / BRITISH MUSEUM

Walk through the History of Art. We are going to have several stops on our walk either in galleries or museums. We will start with the classical architecture, sculpture and mythology of Ancient Greece and Rome. Then move to Byzantine and Romanesque periods with some introduction to Christian art. The Gothic cathedral, Early and High Renaissance also play an important part and worth for a stop. Baroque and Classicism are also an interesting stop just before the modern times where we will be stopping a lot to see all those big changes in styles and subject matters. We will learn about artists and their techniques and how some had it just easy splashing some paint on canvas. And of course we will try it too and hopefully will see a real contemporary artist working in his studio.
