Mother Tongue International Day
Hi, my name is Viola and I am a graduate of the Czech School Without Borders, London.
I officially finished the school last year, and so I returned this year as the volunteer assistant in year 2. Additionally I am one of the leaders of our children’s choir.
Since November 2021, our young singers have been having rehearsals every Saturday morning at school before class to sing Czech songs together – once again. Their first performance this year was a series of carols, which they sang during St. Nicholas Day in front of all pupils and parents. In addition, the choir was supported by a few parents, who accompanied them on musical instruments.
The choir also took part in the international competition called “Compatriot’s carol” announced by Radio Prague International in cooperation with the magazine “Krajánek”, with the support of expatriate associations. For the competition, the choir sang the Czech traditional carol Pásli ovce Valaši and the bilingual Christmas song Jingle Bells. The winner of the competition was decided by spectator voting, which took place on Facebook, where every single “like” on the video meant a vote. Thanks to the audience votes, we finished in a beautiful third place. We would now like to present our performance to you. I hope you enjoy.
