Remembrance at Brookwood 31. 10. 2021
On the 31st of October we took part in remembrance activities at the military graveyard in Brookwood. Since we were unable to attend last year due to the Covid situation, we were very pleased to accept this year’s invitation from the Memorial Association for Free Czechoslovak Veterans, which organizes this remembrance activity every year and takes care of the memorials of Czechoslovak soldiers in Brookwood. Children from year 1 made a memorial reef in the shape of a poppy flower from pebbles. At the event there were representatives from the Czech and Slovak embassies, Air Cadets, Czech schools and associations as well as the relatives of the Czech pilot Karl Kuttelwascher. The children learned about the interesting life stories of Czechoslovak veterans and soldiers from the Second World War. Though the weather was chilly, the event was very welcoming and moving. The Czech, Slovak and British national anthems, sung by the students from the Czech schools, rung proudly across the quiet graveyard, honoring the memory of our fallen heroes.
